Biography
At the crossroads between music and medicine stands 29 year-old Hong Kong-based award-winning singer-songwriter, guitarist and doctor, Ryan Cheung. Deeply influenced by the lyricism and guitar-playing of John Mayer and Bruno Major, he strives to craft songs with the same passion and vulnerability that are imbued in theirs.
Infusing his newfound love of jazz into his acoustic and R&B roots has inspired the creation of a full length album. To date, his releases have garnered over 600,000 streams across the globe.
Despite the challenge of balancing this artistic endeavour with the pursuit of specialty training in medicine, he aspires to continue to release original music that he hopes will connect with audiences at home and abroad.

The Risk of Driving

“The Risk of Driving” is the powerful fifth release from Ryan Cheung’s first upcoming full-length album.
Cheung explores the duality of a blossoming but ill-fated relationship through his contemplative, melancholic vocals which float atop of the pounding percussion and resounding riffs on electric guitar that lead to the climax of the song.
Inspired by the experiences of both euphoria and trauma within the confines of a car with a loved one, this release is set to be Cheung’s most compelling todate.

Miles

“Miles” is an intimate jazz ballad that explores the fragility of dreams in the setting of a fading relationship.
The poetic lyrics exploring different phases of life during the holiday season combined with a minimal yet beautiful piano trio arrangement represent the best of what Ryan Cheung and award-winning producer Alan Kwan have to offer.
The warmth and sincerity of the vocals on top of the ethereal performance of the jazz trio from Japan makes this Cheung’s most heartfelt and vulnerable release to date.

"either way, i doubt i meant much to you"
Written and recorded in the tranquil, lush forests of Bowen Island in Canada, "Either Way" is set to be one of Ryan Cheung's most soulful and intimate creations to date.
On this self-produced acoustic ballad, the intricate melodies and ethereal vocals that have become a core part of Ryan Cheung's sound feature prominently to capture the agony of unrequited love.
Taking a vulnerable lyrical approach inspired by the likes of Ben Howard and Noah Kahan, the words to "Either Way" detail the experience of navigating through the end of denial, the beginning of acceptance, and the grief in between.
"Either Way" will be released together with a music video on 27.10.23 .

An empty whiskey glass and a shattered phone screen. A neon-lit street in the midst of a winter monsoon. An unrelenting battle between pride and loneliness.
These were the elements that inspired “Stockton” - the second collaboration between Ryan Cheung and award-winning producer Enoch Cheng. The poignant piano, gripping guitar arrangements and sentimental vocal performance combine seamlessly to illustrate the struggle of reaching out to an estranged lover. The chorus, written as a stream-of-consciousness is the emotional and musical focal point of this soulful R&B ballad.
